Genise struggles to keep from crying whenever she talks about what Catholic Charities of West Tennessee has done for her.
At 25, she was expecting her third child when she came to Catholic Charities to support her own mother in a program that helps move people out of poverty. Called Driving the Dream, this program helps people identify the obstacles that keep them from achieving their dreams. Catholic Charities was one of the first care coordination hubs for the program in Memphis.
As Genise listened to her mother talk, she realized that she had dreams of her own – dreams of a better life for her children. And Genise made her own decision to be part of Driving the Dream, and to go back to school to make her dreams come true.
Genise works diligently with her care coordinator at Catholic Charities, who provides encouragement, guidance and resources. “I love her spirit,” Genise says.
It is the spirit of love in action. To see her story, watch this video.
