Welcoming our new Bishop

My dear Brothers and Sisters of the Catholic Church in West Tennessee and Friends,

For a while now it’s been difficult for us, and therefore, difficult for those we serve.

We have been in prayer for God to send us a Shepherd to lead us in our devotion to Jesus Christ, to lead us in our devotion to serve our God and the less fortunate in our community.

I am so excited to witness our prayers being answered.

I wanted to share my reaction after being in the presence of our new Shepherd, Bishop David T. Talley.

In the last 72 hours, I have been with Bishop Talley twice. This is what I wanted to share…

I genuinely like our new Bishop. I spent 2 ½ hours with him in a committee meeting I serve on for his installation. What a contagious, exciting personality – very classy and down-to-earth. He’s straightforward and caring, but frank in a kind and gentle way.

He is indeed sent by God for West Tennessee, and he is happy to be in Memphis. I am excited, as I think you must gather. He is our shepherd, and I am proud to be among his flock. We are blessed!!

On behalf of those serve,

Dick Hackett
